Meet Angela. She is Beauty Revived.
We chose to hold the session in a public park, along the lake. While we were shooting, I noticed a rather tall man and two small children with flowers walking down the path. The man kept looking at me, as if he knew me. I thought for sure he must be confused. When they finally approached, Angela was in a quiet shock. I, on the other hand, was still confused. It took a few seconds to sink in that this was her family! I was so excited they had joined us and it was such a lovely surprise for Angela. You could see how proud her family was and how much they adore the woman that she is!
That rather tall gentleman was Steve, Angela’s husband and the two children were hers, Connor who is six and Keaton who is 4. They were some of the sweetest and well-mannered children I have worked with; and you could tell they just adored their mama. Angela is a busy mom shuttling her children to swim lessons, football practice, and Spanish tutoring. She is also a beautiful teacher.
Angela went to school in one of the best school districts in Indiana. She had so many teachers she admired in k-2 and many in high school, too. They inspired her to work hard and prepared her for college. It wasn’t until she became a teacher herself that she realized how lucky she was to have such phenomenal teachers that shaped her educational career. As she entered Indiana university she knew her major would be elementary education.
Angela started her 15th year of teaching this year. She has taught a variety of grade levels including first, second and third grade and this is her first year in Kindergarten (she has fully embraced the change, as well). She goes above and beyond each and every day planning, differentiating and facilitating for each child. She has her Master’s Degree and is a National Board Certified Teacher (NCBT). She strives to include creativity, innovation, technology and curriculum in each lesson plan for her students. Angela has always invested time in getting to know her students outside of the classroom. She attends soccer, basketball or baseball games for her students, and dance recitals. She has spent time tutoring students after school and over the summer.
Angela scours Pinterest for fun and engaging activities that would allow her students to make connections and become engaged in the classroom to create a meaningful learning experience. She uses student’s data and interests to ensure their needs are met, everyday. For example, to gear learners up, she allows them to use an iPad to create her weekly newsletter to parents using iMovie. Parents love to see their child participate in such activities. She’s always willing to differentiate to make sure each child reaches their maximum potential. In addition, Angela uses weekly, monthly and quarterly assessments to plan instruction around her students. She really enjoys teaching children how to read and she’s always had a passion for planning instruction that meets individual learners using word work, phonics and small group teaching. Her passion for Literacy shows in the classroom and helps her students to learn to love reading.
Angela is also a member of Mt. Zion Methodist church in Cornelius. She is involved in their summer music camp. She was a member of her School Sunshine/Hospitality Committee at school where she and other committee members helped boost morale among teachers with activities, give-aways and fun. This year she is the chairperson for the school’s health committee. She enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, taking trips to the beach and exploring.
When asked what she would like her students to remember about her, Mrs. Pratt’s answer: “I want them to remember that I cared about each one and wanted them to be successful. I hope they remember me as a passionate teacher who made learning fun & engaging.” Her students, parents and community are lucky to have her to shape the minds of little ones everyday!
