Meet Danielle. She is Beauty Revived.
“I met Danielle while she was volunteering for childcare for a class in our church. Through that we clicked and we have gotten to know each other pretty well. I am amazed at what this girl has been through and what she has accomplished!
Her parents divorced when she was younger; her dad passed away of a heart attack. But Danielle has not let that slow her down from accomplishing her goals. She keeps great grades in school, is a part of DECA, works at part time jobs because she has to provide for herself and she is very involved in her local church. Above all she really loves the Lord and truly desires to follow Him above all else.”
From Danielle: My parents divorced when I was young; my mom met my step dad and they got married in 2008. I grew up doing a lot of activities such as 4-H, Girl Scouts, horse shows and AWANA. I lost my grandmother when I was 9.
I was bullied a lot in school and didn’t have the best relationship with my mom and step dad, so in 2011 I moved in with my aunt, uncle and dad and my mom and stepdad and sister moved to Wyoming. My cousin and her kids moved in and my dad left and got his own place. I still saw him everyday. He would pick me up in the morning and take me to my bus stop and pick me up from my bus stop after school. He would come over to my aunt’s almost everyday to see me and hang out with me. He had many heart attacks and was shot in the head. My dad died on June 27th of 2013. He had a massive heart attack (I can’t remember what number that made that heart attack…) on Father’s Day which put him in a coma. He fought on life support for 9 days. On June 25th my aunt and uncle had a meeting with the critical team and were told we could try surgery and he would be a vegetable for the rest of his life or we could take him off life support. Two days later he was taken off life support and passed away. He waited until I called him and my aunt put the phone up to his ear and I said “I love you daddy” and those were my last words to him and after that he passed away. I miss my dad so much. A part of me left with him when he passed.
In 2014 I made the decision to move out to WY with my mom and stepdad and sister. I don’t do well with change and moving somewhere I had never been before, leaving my best friend and the rest of my family was extremely difficult. My mom just had hip surgery and can’t currently work. My family struggles financially so I am partially responsible for any bills I have so I work part time to provide for those.
I was bullied most of my life. I was told I was fat, ugly, I stunk like horses, I was stupid…although it absolutely affected my self-esteem, each day I got up and kept going. I won’t let that stop me from being successful and who I want to be. My grandmother and my dad were two very important people in my life. They motivate me everyday because I want to be the woman they wanted me to be and I want to live each day to make them proud. I also want to make my mom and step dad proud of me to show them they did a great job raising me.
I got involved in DECA my junior year while I was in an Intro to Business class. DECA has impacted me because it’s helped me test better in school, challenges me and teaches me how to solve real world business problem. It has helped me know that even when I don’t win I have tried my best and that knowledge has helped my self-esteem.
I plan to graduate high school, complete my generals here in Gillette and then get into Dakota State or Black Hills State University. I want to go into Elementary Education and teach 2nd grade. I have always babysat a lot and love children – I want to make a difference in children’s lives and help them.
