Meet Deena. She is Beauty Revived.
Some things are meant to go together. Peanut butter and jelly. Lucy and Ricky. Christmas and snow. You know what else can go together to create real impact, meaningful change, and bursts of inspiration? Talents and healing.
Real Talent: Teaching Visual Journaling to women all over the world
“I found myself at a point in my life in which I felt unable to help others. I don’t love cooking. I have always loved raising my boys, but the thought of watching someone elses kids frightened me, and while I think I could be a good gift-giver my styles and tastes are often so quirky that I don’t trust myself to buy gifts for others…therefore I felt for a long time like I had nothing to offer. But then, it seemed the heavens opened, and I discovered a talent of mine, and my life has never been more fulfilling.”
Deena has brought to the world the art of Visual Journaling. Having taught courses about her craft to others to loyal fans across the globe, Deena has found that deeply rooted within us is a desire to create, and to aid.
“It was the perfect marriage. I have an opportunity to create things everyday which is deeply enriching for my soul. My fingers get dirty, my brain gets going, and my moods (good and bad!) get put on paper. It is my way of sorting through my own challenges and victories. My way of seeing the Almighty’s impact in my day to day life. What is so rewarding to me is that I have been given this opportunity to allow OTHERS the same awakening experience.”
While the most traditional kind of journaling involves the written word, chronology, and beautifully bound books, Deena – every chance she gets – tries to instill in all her students that it doesn’t matter HOW it is done – but rather that it is CONSISTENTLY done.
“I may have a knack for art, for this unique medium of visual journaling. I can certainly help others who share my passion for painting, sketching, and stamping document their lives in a way that rings true to them. The REAL beauty in what I do comes from helping these women see that what they have to say, in terms of visual journaling, the written word, or with fingerpaints – is IMPORTANT. It is important for them as a person to discover more of who they are. It is important for them as a person to be very much in touch with that divine Spirit inside of them. As they embrace that, talents refine, discovery unfolds, and healing from troubles continues! To think that I have had a chance to light that fire in others is simply indescribable. I never imagined this would be my life. Help me to not blink!”
Being around Deena gave me as a photographer a glimpse of her ability to LIFT others with what she has been given. A terrible cook? No problem. Not so hot with babysitting? No matter. There are so many ways we can open the eyes of others (even ourselves!) to their worth, potential, and divinity!
“Spend some time to dig deep inside you. What are you GREAT at? Keep doing it with vigor and joy! Your talents and efforts are not happening in vain. You can do great things with what you have been given. Discover it. Do it. Share it. You will find your life more enriching than you ever though possible!”
