Meet Emily. She is Beauty Revived.
What is beauty and what makes one beautiful?
“Inner beauty is defined as an energy which brings out the combination of your nature.”
I believe inner beauty is not necessarily tangible, but the people around you can sense it. It is where you can focus on your innerself without allowing ego to get involved; and when you allow it to show, it can nurture others.
My name is Emily Brown, a high school senior from New York, and I’m honored and humbled to have been selected for the 50 Beautiful Seniors campaign. Being recognized for exuding inner beauty is incredible, but to be in the company of 49 other beautiful and caring girls from around the country is beyond words.
I just described what beauty means to me and my way of being beautiful to others is through my volunteer work and helping those in my community. Volunteering is one way to let your inner beauty shine and I have spent numerous hours of my childhood doing just that.
Since I was 12 years old I’ve been volunteering at my church, First Baptist Church of Westfield. One of my passions is working with young children and volunteering at my school and church has allowed me to combine that love with my commitment of volunteering to those less fortunate. My church provides opportunities to provide care to children, as well as organizing safe activities and opportunities for them. One of my favorite ways to give back and volunteer is during the holiday season when we buy gifts for families in need and provide complete Christmas dinners to members of the community. I have the privilege of delivering these gifts and food to the families and it is such a rewarding experience. I also participate in local food drives to bring in nonperishable food items for the food pantry. I love working with kids and being able to help people in need. I feel like helping those who need help brings out my inner beauty.
Next year I will begin my college journey and am choosing to specialize in Early Childhood Education. I believe my past experiences have been such incredible opportunities to prepare me to continue teaching, caring for, and giving back to not only the children I will one day teach, but for the community and those I am fortunate enough to meet in my journey.
I would like to share one of my favorite quotes that I believe can applied to anyone, regardless of who they are… “Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back, and realize they were the big things.” As my high school career comes to a close, those words resonant with me everyday as I continue to appreciate the moments and experiences I am fortunate enough to have.
Beauty does not always consist of what you look like on the outside. True beauty is when you let your inner love and kindness show for all to see. Inner beauty brings joy and light to the people around you.
