Meet Emma. She is Beauty Revived.
A carefree soul. A lover of dance, books and anything elephants. Emma is just 7 years old, but she is the bravest little girl I know. In August of 2012, at the young age of 4, Emma was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I never knew much about diabetes, and what it is like to live with it but being Emma’s aunt, I have witnessed her day to day. Regardless, she’s a happy, outgoing girl, and never lets anything get her down.
She strives to bring awareness to this disease. At school, her teacher assigned her classroom a project to invent something. Emma wanted to help others, so she invented a hand cream, to soothe dry skin that diabetes often have due to the constant hand washing. She made a mixture of natural ingredients, including coconut oil, beeswax and more.
Like I mentioned before, she is an amazing advocate for spread awareness. She enjoys doing the JDRF walk every year with her family, this year being her fourth, and raising about five thousand dollars for diabetes research. Emma is a very ambitious young lady. When I asked her what her hope for the future is, she replied “I want a cure, but in the mean time, I want to invent a drink that you take on a certain day, that lasts the year. No more lantus pain, and no more belly aches.”
When Emma grows up, she wants to be an artist and a doctor. I know we can all agree that Emma is going to do amazing things in the future. Don’t we all wish to see through the eyes of a child? I wish to see the world like Emma does. She’s brave and loving, even when faced with hardships. She always has a positive outlook. Emma is the perfect example of real beauty. Inside and out.
