Meet Kaycie-Jeanine Phelps Photography
Kaycie Paige was born perfectly healthy on November 11, 2014 at 41.5 weeks in the water at home surrounded by a team of amazing midwives and so many others that love her. And in that moment we had no idea the impact our girl would make in the first 4 years of her precious life.
God is so good at preparing us for what’s to come, because my whole pregnancy even though I felt great I knew something wasn’t right or wasn’t going to be right I knew it, I felt it. So when that 1st ultrasound came back and she was perfect, I breathed a little sigh of relief. The moment I pulled her out of the water and saw her, again she was perfect, another sigh of relief. 5 weeks after she was born she had her in home hearing test and of course passed with flying colors. I remember texting my husband telling him “See, we worried for nothing our daughter is perfect. “
Just one week later she suffered a major stroke and massive brain bleed to the right frontal part of her brain due to a vitamin K deficiency at birth.
As we rushed her lifeless body into the ER God told me…I’m about to walk with you through Hell, it’s going to be scary and dark at times but I WILL MAKE HER KNEW again. All while doctors told us she probably wouldn’t make it the next 48 hrs. That the swelling in her brain was too much, and if she did make it, well then you have to think about quality of life vs quantity. Not once did doubt fill my mind. Yes It has been HELL and very dark a lot of the past 4 years but the joy our girl brings defeats all hardships.
Kaycie Paige has endured seven major brain surgeries, from 2 craniotomies, 3 cranioplastys a shunt surgery and a skull reconstruction. Not once has she ever complained as she wins each nurse and Doctor over time and time again. And when asked where her boo boo is she will point to the IV site, not the hundreds of stitches on her sweet head, or how her hair looks different than all the other little girls, but rather tell everyone how her Doctor gave her a new haircut.
She is our walking talking PERFECT miracle, who without going through this Hell we would be missing out on All God has shown and brought to us.
Sweet Heart friends, nonprofit organizations we get to be apart of such as Just for J and Hustle Kindness and the Dell Children’s Trust Teddy Bear Closet all through which have blessed our family but now we get to be a small part in a big change they are doing in this world. The greatest blessing of all is being witness to Gods goodness every time we walk in the dark because He always pulls us through to the Light, and so many people are walking with us.
Kaycie Paige is FULL of Life. Joy radiates from her little Soul. She has defeated all the odds. From crawling to walking to running to riding her trike, and using both hands. She suffers mild weakness on her left side, but she has worked really hard to use that hand, and when she does she is so proud of herself, just as we are.
When I met Kaycie Paige a year or so ago, I had no idea she had been through any of this. What I did know is that this little girl was full of joy. She was the happiest toddler hands down I had ever met. She is always smiling and always showing off her sass. Through all of the appointments she stays positive. We can all learn so much from this brave girl. Humbling to meet her and share her story to say the least.
Be Brave Kaycie Paige.
