Meet Lexi. She is Beauty Revived.
Lexi is amazing. Honestly, I you challenge you to find a more joyful child in this world. Lexi is so amazing because she is changing the world one person at a time! When Lexi was just a tiny babe, she suffered from an infant stroke. As Lexi would put it, “Yes! Kids have strokes too!”.
When I first met Lexi and her service dog Rosie at a coffee shop before our session, I could tell immediately what a special girl she was. Shy at first, she quickly warmed up to me and began telling me about herself, her family and her special dog Rosie.
Lexi told me her story herself. In her own way. She was born a perfect baby girl but then, when she was a few weeks old, doctors believe she had a stroke. This caused her brain to suffer injury. As a result she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Lexi shared with me her story of countless surgeries and therapy appointments so she could get around like a normal kid. I could tell by her triumphant voice that she was so proud of who she was and how she became so strong in despite of her injury. She might not be strong in her limbs but she is strong in her heart.
Lexi advocates for awareness about childhood strokes by speaking to adults and children alike; helping them understand that strokes not only happen to adults. When kids have strokes it affects them just as it might an adult. With hard work and determination, Lexi has been able to live the life any child would long for. With the help of her parents, Rosie and her baby brother, Lexi is a voice to reckon with.
Lexi uses a Walkaide to help her leg do what her brain wants it to. Her cerebral palsy limits her brains ability to properly relay the signal to her foot to lift up when she wants to move it. The Walkaide fills in the gaps and helps Lexi move around like the crazy kid she is! During our session she was even running and so proud of it too! She made my heart so full with her positive spirit and attitude! Lexi also attends various therapy appointments weekly to make sure she stays on top of keeping her body and brain in check.
To keep Lexi busy and to reach as many people as she can, Lexi participates in the Cinderella Pageant. There, Lexi shines brightly with her spunky attitude and lovely grace. The Cinderella Pageant is a youth development scholarship program that offers girls the opportunity to be recognized for their achievements. Lexi won this years’ Colorado pageant and had to chance to travel to Texas for the International pageant. There she won the award for “Most Enthusiastic” which does not surprise me one bit. So bubbly, happy and full of life she is the example we can all look to for inspiration that nothing can slow us down if we don’t let it.
Lexi has the biggest heart despite any medical setbacks she has faced throughout her life. Her will to keep trying and her parents love and support keep Lexi doing the things kids her age normally do regardless of any difficulties she may face. For that, Ms. Lexi, you are my hero!
About the Photographer
HELLO. MY NAME IS SANDY FALES AND I AM THE FACE BEHIND THE CAMERA AT WILD PRAIRIE PHOTOGRAPHY! I AM A RECENT TRANSPLANT TO BEAUTIFUL COLORADO SPRINGS. I. LOVE. IT. HERE. THE MOUNTAINS, THE AIR, THE PEOPLE…EVERYTHING! IT IS TRULY WHERE MY HEART LAYS. I MOVED HERE FROM A CATTLE RANCH IN NEBRASKA WHERE I LIVED FOR FIVE YEARS. I STARTED MY LIFE OVER AND MADE MY NEW HOME IN A PLACE WHERE I FELT WELCOMED AND HAPPY. MY JOURNEY HAS NOT BEEN EASY AND I AM THANKFUL FOR EVERY DAY I HAVE WITH MY TWO SWEET BABES. NEVER LET YESTERDAY FILL UP TODAY AND ALWAYS BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD ARE TWO THINGS THAT I TRY TO LIVE BY. WHEN I’M NOT GETTING DOWN IN NATURE, I LOVE CHASING MY TWO TINY PEOPLE AROUND AND CATCHING THOSE LITTLE MOMENTS WE HAVE TOGETHER ON FILM. PHOTOGRAPHY IS IN MY SOUL AND I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
